Muğla Cultural Center
Architecture
Located at the “threshold” where Muğla’s historic and contemporary urban fabrics meet, the project conceives the building as a transitional and gathering space that connects the city’s different layers and forms of public life. At this threshold, the building is envisioned as a passage, frame, and new public focal point that reinforces urban continuity.
By lifting the main volume above the ground, a permeable public void open to the city in three directions is created. Pedestrian movement is drawn into the building, while the perspective opening toward Kurşunlu Mosque strengthens its connection with the historic city. The public life that begins at ground level extends to the upper levels through the central void, conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Muğla’s traditional courtyard hayat space. In this way, the building transforms into a living urban space where public life gains continuity across all levels.
